Meet Tommy Bush
By
combining a passion for music and a "never stop learning"
attitude, guitar teacher Tommy Bush provides a unique learning
experience for his students. Going that extra mile for his students
is not uncommon for Tommy. Tommy
Bush began his music career in 1976 teaching and performing
in North East Florida. Tom studied classical and jazz guitar
as a teenager and hung out with Lynyrd Skynrd lead guitarist
Allan Collins just before the band hit it big in the early
70’s.
Tom studied music theory and business at Jacksonville University
graduating cum laude. Other noted jazz educators influencing
Tom include Frank Sullivan, Gary Starling, Mike Gerber, Randy
Bernsen, Jeff Harrington, and the legendary Charlie Banacos. Tommy is currently studying improvisation and composition with jazz bassist, Jeff Berlin.
A quarter decade of teaching experience helped develop Tom’s
versatility in approaching any musical situation.
Tommy utilizes studies on standard jazz tunes, major and minor
blues, chord tones, chromatic and scale approaches, sequences,
intervals, permutations, upper structure triads, and chord
substitution. These approaches are applied to what ever style
of music the student wishes to endeavor. Tommy teaches at
all levels and all ages for those interested in studying music.
